The Overview Since 2011, I have served as the Lead Architect and Fractional CTO for MKB Servicedesk, helping them grow into the leading platform for Dutch SMEs. Today, the site serves over 400,000 monthly visitors and generates 3,500 qualified leads annually.

The Challenge: Scaling a Legacy Platform Our partnership began with me managing their physical infrastructure, from provisioning bare metal servers to maintaining a custom ColdFusion CMS. However, as the platform scaled, the legacy infrastructure became a bottleneck. We needed a solution that offered blazing fast performance and easier content management without losing the massive SEO equity built over a decade.

The Solution: A Zero-Downtime Migration In 2019, I architected a complete migration to a modern Headless CMS using Contentful and Gatsby. A critical requirement was preserving SEO rankings, which we achieved by meticulously mapping thousands of legacy URLs to the new structure. The result was a seamless, zero-downtime switch to a high-performance static site hosted on Firebase, drastically reducing load times and server costs.

Innovation: Context Aware AI As a Fractional CTO, my focus is on future-proofing. Recently, we integrated a custom Generative AI agent directly into the reading experience. Built with an Angular widget embedded within the React environment, this tool allows users to "chat with the article." It uses Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) to answer questions based specifically on the page content, while clearly distinguishing between internal data and external general knowledge to maintain editorial integrity.

The Tech Stack While MKB Servicedesk’s internal team handles the visual design, I provide the strategic roadmap and technical execution. The current ecosystem is powered by Gatsby (React) and Contentful, backed by a robust infrastructure of Google Cloud Run, Firebase Hosting, and Cloudflare to ensure stability at scale.
