The Overview As the Fractional CTO for SDG Align, I guide the technical vision of a platform designed to help organizations streamline their sustainability reporting. The SDG Align Toolkit is a complex multi-tenant SaaS environment. It enables companies to measure, manage, and report on their impact against the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Challenge: Enterprise-Grade Scalability Building a platform for sustainability management requires a delicate balance between flexibility and strict data isolation. The core challenge was to design an architecture that could securely handle separate data environments for multiple corporate tenants while maintaining a shared codebase for rapid feature deployment. The system needed to support complex workflows ranging from real-time analytics to team collaboration without compromising on speed or security.

The Solution: A Serverless Foundation To meet these demands, I defined a serverless architecture leveraging the power of Google Cloud. We utilized Firebase Firestore to create a flexible and scalable NoSQL database structure capable of handling intricate tenant relationships and permissions. The frontend is engineered with Vue.js. This delivers a reactive and polished user experience that simplifies the heavy data entry often associated with compliance reporting.

Strategic Leadership & AI Innovation My role extends beyond architecture into active team leadership and innovation. We are leveraging Vertex AI to introduce two critical capabilities. First, we use AI to perform automated scans of companies to assess their current sustainability status. Second, we developed a custom context-aware chatbot. This AI acts as an always-available expert guide. It supports users throughout their entire journey allowing them to ask questions about their progress or receive specific guidance within the tool.

The Tech Stack The platform is built on a modern, scalable stack designed for growth. The core application runs on Vue.js for a responsive interface backed by Firebase Firestore for real-time data management. Google’s Vertex AI powers the intelligent scanning and chat features to ensure the toolkit provides not just data storage but actionable guidance.
